History

The original “Liquid Feeds” was established in 1972, located in Hamilton, Ontario where it was a supplier of “Pro-Mix” cattle feed molasses products for local farmers. In the early 80s most of the main players (co-ops and large feed companies) were involved in the liquid feed business. As soybean meal become more available, consequently with a lower cost, the main players moved from liquid protein sources to dry protein, yet the precursor to Liquid Feeds International (LFI) remained in the sector and consolidated. The business was sold to two partners, Glen Gregory and Stan Snyder in 1986. Soon after, LFI was relocated to an industrial park at hwy 401 and hwy 6 just south of Guelph Ontario. 5 years later, LFI came under the sole ownership of Glen Gregory who has guided the business to what it is today.

The business was founded with two principle product lines – a 42% Liquid Protein Supplement (LPS) for use in lick tanks and Silage Additives to be incorporated into the ensiling process. These products remain in place today with very minor changes from the original formulas – why mess with success? As demand increased in the liquid feed market, so did the need for an on-site manufacturing mill. In 2001 a new plot of land was purchased in Innerkip Ontario, just outside of Woodstock Ontario and a new office was built. 2 years later in 2003, the state of the art liquid manufacturing plant was built. The need for a better handling and mixing facility proved to be one of Liquid Feeds biggest assets, as products could be monitored closely when being mixed and delivery was more accurate with the fresh product.

Once the new plant was built, a new product range, Dairy Gold, was added to the line-up – an on-farm molasses based product designed to be added to the TMR which provided added nutrition and enhanced feeding quality. Gold Coat, our mill molasses mix product, saw sales initiated in 2005 followed by organic acid mineral mixes for the swine sector in 2006.

Today we are seeing a resurgence in lick tank use for dairy heifers (we developed mini-lickers for freestall housing units) and growth in on-farm feeding of Dairy Gold and custom dairy products. Gold Coat sales continue to gain market share as feed mill customers become more demanding of high quality ingredients. LFI continues to explore new opportunities in the liquid feeding business. The trend at the farm level is towards greater use of byproducts in the dairy and swine sectors. Liquid Feeds International is well positioned to work with our customers to optimize purchasing and nutrition power.
