Slow Release Protein
LFI incorporates a process in the manufacture of LPS42 that utilizes a “slow-release” technology (also referred to as “timed-release”). This slow-release crude protein is in the form of Non-Protein-Nitrogen (NPN) from urea. The LFI technology prevents the urea from being rapidly degraded in the rumen – instead, the Nitrogen is released at approximately the same rate as the release of Nitrogen from soybean meal. This provides a steady supply of Nitrogen for the rumen microbes to use with the sugar from LPS to grow and optimize rumen fermentation.
For optimum performance, a balance of rumen soluble protein (and NPN) and bypass protein is required. Rumen generated microbial protein is the highest quality protein (because of its amino acid profile) and is added to the rumen bypass (rumen escape) protein pool. Digestible bypass protein is efficiently utilized and is an important component in rations for fast growing beef and dairy cattle.
The combination of timed release protein, with energy from the molasses sugars will stimulate rumen microbial activity and increase utilization of forages.
